Sarah of the Desert

The life of Amma Sarah of the Desert is known only from the sayings and stories collected in the Apothegmata of the Desert Fathers. She was a solitary who lived for 60 years in a cell on a river (presumably the Nile) at which she never looked. She fought a fierce battle for many years with a demon who tempted her to fornication. She is thought to have lived near Sketis in the time of Theodosius II (408-450).
