Richard of St.-Victor Born in Scotland c. 1123, Richard of St.-Victor (d. 1173) entered the monastery when he was quite young and became a student of Hugh of St.-Victor. Made prior in 1162, Richard was the author of exegesis and of theological treatises that influenced St. Bonaventure and other Franciscan mystics. Richard's major works include Benjamin major and Benjamin minor, which outline the stages of contemplation, the end of which is absorption into the Divine Beloved. De trinitate presents the necessary reasons for faith, based on experience. Richard teaches that one can reach the essentials of Christian trinitariam theology through speculative reason based on data from the senses. Karen Rae Keck
