St. Peter Born Simon, son of Jonah, St. Peter became a disciple of Jesus c. 30 when Peter and his brother, Andrew were called from their fishing boats. Simon was the first to acknowledge Jesus as Christ but denied Him before His crucifiction. Peter, whom many consider to be the rock upon which Christ built the church, later affirmed his love for Christ after the resurrection and became the leader of the Christian community. He is said to have been bishop of Jerusalem and bishop of Antioch before he moved to Rome. Little is known about his life after the events recorded in the New Testament. He was crucified at Rome c. 64 under Nero. Karen Rae Keck
