Marcellinus

Elected to the papacy in 296, Marcellinus authorized structural changes in the cemetary of Calixtus. Little else is known of the man and his papacy, although many stories about his apostacy in 303 abound. He is said to have offered incense to the gods and to have given copies of the Scriptures to Roman authorities. The legends say that the future popes Marcellus, Miltiades, and Sylvester were present at this betrayal. Marcellus removed Marcellinus from the records, although the legends say that he repented and remained pope until his death in 304
