Hormisdas
An Italian with a Persian name, Pope/St. Hormisdas (d. 523) was an archdeacon when elected pope in 514. He reconciled to the Roman church the last supporters of the antipope Lawrence, and in 519, he ended the Acacian schism between Rome and Constantinople, which had been the result of Patriarch Acacius' attempts to unite the monophysites and the Orthodox. Hormisdas commissioned Dionysius Exiguus to translate Greek canons into Latin. Hormisdas was the father of Pope Silverius.
