Dionysius
Elected to the papacy in 260, after the death of Emperor Valerian, St. Dionysius had been a leading figure in the church under Sixtus II. Dionysius reorganized the church, which was in disarray from the persecutions. He also aided the church in Cappadocia after a Persian invasion. The patriarch of Alexandria, also named Dionysius, accused the Pope of tritheism, charges the pope refuted eloquently and persuasively. Pope Dionysius died in 268.
